M'town Twp Committee Candidate Faces Charges of CDS Possession

The following arrest information was supplied by police. It does not indicate a conviction.

Middletown Township Democratic candidate for Township Committee Alex DeSevo has been arrested and charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance (CDS), or suspected cocaine, according to Holmdel Police records listed today on the Holmdel Patch.

Contacted by telephone on his way into an unrelated court case on Friday afternoon, DeSevo, 43, who is an attorney, confirmed that he was the same person listed in Holmdel records. Though he opted not to comment.

"I prefer not to comment at this time on a personal tragedy," DeSevo said, noting that he wished to protect his family and adding, "I have been a good person all my life."

The Holmdel police record stated that DeSevo, of Red Bank, was arrested on June 18 and charged with the CDS possession (suspected cocaine) and possession of CDS parapernalia as a result of an incident at the Holmdel Motor Inn motel, Route 35, Holmdel.

DeSevo's  address on record is Red Bank, due to the zip code used; however it is in the River Plaza section of Middletown. He lives on West Front Street.

DeSevo has run on the Democratic ticket for Middletown Township Committee several times in the past decade and never won a seat.

He is an attorney.

When asked about DeSevo's arrest, Middletown Mayor Tony Fiore, who DeSevo is running against, said, "I think it's an unfortunate situation. I hope Mr. DeSevo is able to get the help he needs."

Though, the mayor reminded that "he (DeSevo) has not yet been convicted of anything. This is America and he is due his process. I hope for the best for him."

As for the political race, Fiore said of DeSevo, "I think he should focus on himself and his family, not running a campaign at this point."

Arrests do not indicate convictions. All charges lodged against any arrestee are first heard in a court of law.
