Missing Middletown Child Found After Search Of Hartshorne Woods

Middletown police and prosecutor's detectives combed the woods of Hartshorne Woods Park looking for a missing child Thursday night.

MIDDLETOWN, NJ — A child went missing in Middletown last Thursday, and both Middletown police and a team from the county prosecutor's office combed the dense woods of Hartshorne Woods Park Thursday night looking for him. Hartshorne Woods is a 736-acre park that lies on a peninsula in between the Navesink River and Sandy Hook Bay.

The child was found safely early Friday morning, law enforcement told Patch.

Police did a search of Hartshorne Woods overnight on Thursday, April 26, as it was suspected the child may have been in there overnight on Thursday. Police declined to say if that's where the child had actually spent the night.

However, the child was found unharmed very early Friday morning, said Chris Swendeman, a spokesman for the Monmouth County prosecutor.

No criminality is suspected, he said. He also refused to release the child's age because they are a minor.
