Some facilities are reporting very high numbers: CareOne on Rt. 34 in Holmdel for example, currently has 57 confirmed cases and recorded 16 deaths. Bayshore Healthcare Center in Holmdel has 94 confirmed cases and 11 deaths. And Wedgewood Gardens in Freehold has 64 confirmed cases and 12 deaths.

The state of New Jersey has been pressuring the owners and managers of long-term care facilities to make their COVID-19 cases publicly known, Health Commissioner Judith Persichilli said Monday.

According to a Monmouth County spokeswoman, the inspection of long-term care facilities is currently the responsibility of the state.

However in Camden County, local government has taken a very different tactic: County officials saying they are "horrified" by the loss of life at nursing homes, so much so that Camden County officials have taken over random inspections of these homes from state officials, according to the Gloucester Township Patch.
