SETS Hybrid Training Gym Will Open In Middletown This Year

MIDDLETOWN, NJ — A gym called SETS Hybrid Training, with outposts in Matawan, Freehold and Jackson, will be opening their newest location in Middletown later this year.

SETS is a franchise, and the news was revealed Friday by Ryan Bailey, who owns the Matawan franchise location.

"We'll be opening in Middletown in the Livoti's Old World Market plaza," Bailey said on Friday. "We'll be opening in an L-shaped space around the back of the Applebee's, next to the dance studio that is there now."

He said the landlord is completely building out the fitness space for him, from the ground up. It will not be ready until early September of this year, thus Bailey said he envisions a late September/early October opening.

SETS Hybrid Training is circuit-based group training, similar to CrossFit. The 50-minute, coach-led sessions focus on a continual combination of strength and high-intensity cardio.

They opened their Matawan location on Rt. 516 three years ago and now Bailey said he needs to move into a bigger space, as membership has "grown significantly" since then. At the end of February/early March, the Matawan SETS will move into a bigger new space in the Rt. 9 AutoZone Plaza in Old Bridge.

A SETS will also open in Barnegat later this year; there is also one in Hamilton.

"We're really excited to open up in the Middletown market," said Bailey, who grew up in Freehold and currently lives in Long Branch. "It's a big town, a great community for us. We think there a lot of people who would be interested. We also do a lot of charity group classes to raise money for things in the community."
