NJ Transit Service To Monmouth Park Begins This Weekend
As Monmouth Park opens for its 72nd season this Saturday, the racing track continues to be hurting for cash. But some are optimistic.
NJ Transit's summer rail service to Monmouth Park Racetrack begins this Saturday, May 13 and operates through September 10. The service will run on weekends (Sat. and Sun.) and holidays (except July 4th) when the track is open for live racing. Friday rail service begins June 9 and continues through August 25. Monmouth Park Station is served by North Jersey Coast Line rail service.
As Monmouth Park opens for its 72nd season this Saturday, the racing track continues to be hurting for cash. It is the only horse racing track in the Mid-Atlantic that doesn’t have on-site alternative gaming or receive gambling subsidies from the state (that subsidy was taken away by Gov. Christie in 2011). But some remain optimistic about its future. State Sen. Richard Codey said this week he thinks horse racing will have more support among New Jersey lawmakers a year from now. And the park is eager to see who will win the New Jersey governor's election, as Christie has not been a supporter of horse racing.
NJ Transit is offering a Monmouth Park package which saves customers $5.50. The package includes a round-trip ticket to Monmouth Park from any rail station (excluding Atlantic City Rail Line stations), Grandstand Admission and an official track program for $3.50 plus the regular cost of a round-trip rail ticket. Packages are also available for children, senior citizens and customers with disabilities. Tickets are valid on regularly scheduled trains on Fridays, weekends and holidays when the racetrack is open.
