Oak Hill Academy Students Know that “Determination is Success”

Every student is excited about his or her first day of school. Each new school year at Oak Hill Academy begins with a school wide assembly where the school’s Headmaster, Mr. Joseph Pacelli, not only welcomes the students, but also introduces them to a theme for the year. This theme is intended to be a guiding force for the students and to help them be better persons as they learn and develop. Oak Hill Academy’s 2018-2019 theme is “Determination is Success”and was inspired by an article about Dr. Fernanda Brito. Dr. Brito is a woman from Brazil who came to the United States alone and with no money, but was determined to get an education and a better life. After overcoming many adversities, she received her Doctorate from New York University.

Mr. Pacelli went on to encourage the students to always give their best, learn from their mistakes, and be willing to take risks. In fact, he explained that determination was a better indicator of future success than test scores. He asked them to take advantage of the opportunities at Oak Hill and challenge themselves. As he always says, “the best is yet to come!”
