Oak Hill Academy Students Ranks as 1st Place School at Mathleague.org Competition Hosted by the Ranney School

Oak Hill Academy was the first place school! The team of Elizabeth Wright, Aarya Doshi, Alexander Mitchell, and Michael Gao came in 1st.

On Wednesday, October 21, twenty-one Oak Hill Academy students competed in an elementary mathematics contest sponsored by Mathleague.org. This regional competition was held at the Ranney School in Tinton Falls. Mathleague.org sponsors a number of elementary school contests to be held throughout the country each school year. The contests are structured in such a way that students find the tests good preparation for other elementary and junior high math contests. Top-scoring students at qualifying meets held throughout the year are invited to compete at their state’s championship in May, and winners of the state championships are invited to a national championship in June.

Oak Hill Academy was the first place school! The team of Elizabeth Wright, Aarya Doshi, Alexander Mitchell, and Michael Gao came in 1st place, while the team of Molly Jain, Justin Weber, Maria Giannakopoulos and Rahul Kavuru came in second place overall.

The contest features a number sense round, target round, sprint round, and team round. For the 4th grade participants, Oak Hill two participating students took home two awards: 2nd Place – Mitchell Oldham(Lincroft) and 3rd Place – Karan Patnaik(Holmdel). For the 5th Grade participants, Oak Hill had 5 out of the top 10 award recipients: 1st Place – Michael Gao(Holmdel), 6th Place – Audrey Yan(Holmdel), 7th Place – Robert Schweikert(Atlantic Highlands), 9th Place – Cadence Li(Morganville), and 10th place – Sarina Dhaliwal(Parlin). Finally in the 6th Grade, Oak Hill had 7 out of the top 10 awards, including the top six awards: 1st Place – Alex Mitchell(Red Bank), 2nd Place – Aarya Doshi(Hazlet), 3rd Place – Elizabeth Wright(Fair Haven), 4th Place – Molly Jain(Red Bank), 5th Place – Justin Weber(Middletown), 6th Place Rahul Kavuru(Holmdel), and 8th place Maria Giannakopoulos(Colts Neck).

Oak Hill Academy by far won the most awards and qualified ten students for the state competition in the spring. Their success can be attributed to their hard work, their love of mathematics, and their challenging math curriculum both during school and in extra-curricular activities at Oak Hill.
