What Happened At The Oct. 7 Middletown Township Committee Meeting
Reporting From Township Authorities

This was a very quick meeting. There was a public hearing on an ordinance to amend the paving and roadway construction restoration requirements. No members of the public came forward to address this new ordinance and the Committee unanimously approved it.
A new ordinance was introduced to provide funding for the acquisition of a SUV for the fire department. The appropriation was for $51,000.
Resolutions were adopted to accept a donated vehicle for the police department, some change orders for road reconstruction projects, to add a grant into the budget for bulletproof vests, to sell town-owned personal property, authorized a contract to purchase 7 – 4WD pick-up trucks and to pay the bills of the township.
The vacation of a paper street in the flood plains of Pt. Monmouth was discussed. Two homeowners expressed the desire to the township administrator about acquiring half of the street that borders and runs between their properties.
The renewal of a shared services agreement with the county for records management was brought forward by the Clerk, but there were no comments from the Committee.
Another discussion item was added to the agenda to have municipal authorities provide a presentation. The Executive Director of the sewerage authority, Ray Nierstedt, provided a brief overview of the township sewerage system and the need to perform major infrastructure projects.
Susan Thomas, Executive Director of the Middletown Housing Authority described the administration of the two housing projects that the authority manages. She explained the recent work to pave the parking lot at Tomasa Plaza and the replacement of air conditioning unit that was out of commission for 10 years. She added that the waiting list for both buildings would be open from October 15 thru December 1. Ms. Thomas said that there is a big turnover in the units and encouraged all to let people know to submit applications.
During the public comment portion of the meeting one woman from Indian Hill questioned when the reconstruction of her road was to begin and how the new drainage system would be protected during the winter until the road would be paved in the spring. She was assured that the drainage system would be protected and that a construction schedule would be obtained this week.
