Too many of us take for granted the experience our pet professionals have. In NJ anyone can hang out a shingle and groom a dog.
Did you know there is a wide gap in experience between different groomers. Some groomer have 4 weeks of "formal" training, others have have gone to a trade school similar to a hair stylist.
Ask questions, be sure your groomer is right for your dog. Do they ask questions, what products do they use, do they consider the age of the pet?
A good groomer will take everything into consideration. A puppy has different needs than an older pet. A dog with skin conditions should also consider possible change in diet. A shy dog needs a calm environment.
Ask how many dogs a day does the groomer do, how much experience does the groomer have?
From our experience Corporate settings are more concerned with bottom line numbers.
Small shops with the right team and education can be a far more rewarding experience for you and your pet.
Remember it's up to you to ask, your pet can't!
