Pro-Trump Rally Tonight In Middletown; Sanctuary City Meeting In Red Bank

Trump supporters will meet at the Route 35 ShopRite and from there head to Red Bank, which is considering becoming a sanctuary city.

MIDDLETOWN, NJ — The national political debate captivating America and the rest of the world will be unfolding right in your backyard Monday night, Monmouth County.

First, as Patch reported Friday, there will be a pro-Trump rally from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Route 35 ShopRite in Middletown. This will be the first of two pro-Trump rallies at the ShopRite this week; the second will be Saturday, March 4, from noon to 2 p.m. (The rallies will take place on the public sidewalk, Patch has learned.)

Some of the pro-Trump supporters from Middletown say they will head from there to Red Bank borough hall Monday night, where the Red Bank Human Relations Committee will debate a proposal this evening to declare Red Bank a "sanctuary city." That meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m., and the committee will decide whether or not to recommend to the borough council that Red Bank officially declare itself a sanctuary city.

Meanwhile a student group of "DREAM" supporters from Brookdale Community College says it will be at the Red Bank meeting in support of the sanctuary city designation, the Asbury Park Press reported.

"We are known as 'The Silent Majority,' and we usually like to live and let live, expect our representatives to do the right thing and do it within the guidelines of the Constitution," said Barb Gonzalez, a Middletown resident who is helping to organize the pro-Trump rally. "But when they don't, or when the people that are trying to do the right things are attacked ... we react. It is especially irritating to see the left turn the term 'illegal alien' to 'immigrant.' No one in the Tea Party is anti-immigrant."

These are part of hundreds of other pro-Trump rallies being held across the U.S., which are being called "Spirit of America." (See a full list here).
