Rabid Groundhog Found In Monmouth County
The animal was found Friday, and results from the state lab came back this week.
MIDDLETOWN, NJ — A groundhog that ended up testing positive for rabies was found in Middletown Friday, said the Township.
Middletown Animal Control first received a report on June 5 of a sick groundhog in the area of Raritan Avenue and Erie Road.
The animal was retrieved and then sent for testing. The New Jersey Department of Health confirmed this week the groundhog tested positive for rabies, and Middletown Twp. announced it in this public alert. There were no pet or animal exposures.
