Sandy Hook Fee Increase On Hold Until Summer 2019

SANDY HOOK, NJ - On Thursday, we reported that there will be NO parking fee increase this coming summer at Sandy Hook Gateway National Recreation Area. But there may be one in 2019.

The National Park Service has abandoned its idea to raise parking fees for summer 2017, but they will resurrect it for summer 2019, a park service spokeswoman told Patch Friday.

"Based on feedback we received, we have decided to postpone consideration of a parking fee increase until 2019," said National Park Service spokeswoman Daphne Yun. "Our goal is to continue to strike the right balance between providing the exemplary visitor services and amenities the public expects at a national park, while remaining an affordable and accessible destination."

Before they abandoned the plan, the National Park Service sought to raise Sandy Hook's parking fees to $20 per day and $100 per season, and $50 per day and $200 a season for oversized cars. It would have been the second fee increase at the park in five years.

For summer 2017, Sandy Hook beach parking will remain at its current rate: $15 per day and $75 per season. For oversized vehicles (more than 20 feet), the charge will remain at $30 per day or $150 per season.
