Next Wednesday, July 26, Sandy Hook Gateway National Recreation Area will host the oldest, largest all-women lifeguard tournament in the US.

SANDY HOOK — Next Wednesday, July 26, Sandy Hook Gateway National Recreation Area will host the oldest and largest all-women lifeguard tournament in North America. And the public is invited to come watch!
The all-women lifeguard tournament, now in its 33rd year, consists of ten events that highlight the fitness, skill, strength and endurance of contestants in what is still a non-traditional line of work for women. The tournament is meant to showcase the fact that smart, healthy women save lives.
WHERE: Gateway National Recreation Area’s Sandy Hook Unit in Highlands, N.J., Beach Lot E.

WHEN: Wednesday, July 26, 2017, beginning at 9:00 A.M.
WHO: Women lifeguards at any beach, lake or pool. If you want to compete, you actually don't need to sign up ahead of time, although many people do. Groups or solo participants can also show up the day of and sign up. Check in is at 7:30 a.m. on July 26. Note: This event will take place rain or shine. Wear clothing and footwear appropriate for the beach in the summer as well as sunscreen. Bring water.
