Sandy Hook Parking Passes Go On Sale This Weekend

It's $75 a season to park and $15 per day. So if you think you'll be visiting Sandy Hook frequently, it makes sense to get a season pass.

Plan on visiting Sandy Hook Gateway National Recreation Area this summer? Parking passes for the 2017 season will go on sale this Saturday and Sunday, May 5 and 6. Summer-long parking passes will be sold at the entrance booth from 9-4 p.m. both days.

They will again be sold next weekend, Saturday and Sunday, May 13 and 14. Passes will not be for sale on weekdays until May 15. For summer 2017, Sandy Hook beach parking will remain at its current rate: $15 per day and $75 per season. For oversized vehicles (more than 20 feet), the charge will remain at $30 per day or $150 per season.

Last year, the National Park Service sought to raise Sandy Hook's parking fees to $20 per day and $100 per season, and $50 per day and $200 a season for oversized cars. But the proposed fee increase was canceled in December. It would have been the second fee increase at the park in five years and many in New Jersey were outraged at the proposal, including Congressman Frank Pallone (D), who helped successfully convince the National Park Service to nix the fee hike.
