September 4, 2018 Middletown Township Committee Meeting

What To Do With Stevenson Park

If you have never been to Stevenson Park, I would suggest that you all go there to see what a nature preserve really looks like. This park has been left in its original state, besides the section that the township leased to Sickles Farm to grow crops, since it was owned by the Stevenson family. There is over 130 acres there and is at the head of Shadow Lake.

The township has proposed to develop up 9 soccer fields in this park, along with 350 parking spots for the spectators of the events that are to be held here. After the Township Committee voted to instruct the Administrator to apply for a Green Acres grant to begin this project, there was a public hearing to gain the opinions of the residents. Many coaches of soccer leagues were present, some which bring players as far away as an hours drive to Middletown to use township fields. Some spoke very highly in favor of newly developed fields that would be located in one location. Some residents, most that live close to the park and use it regularly, came to express this opinion and that the park should remain in its' present condition.
