What Happened At The Sept. 4 Middletown Planning Board Meeting

Residential Plan (Middletown Walk) Approved

covered the residential development at the Circus Liquors Development project.

The applicant proposes the phase development of 350 residential units on the Residential Tract of what is known as the Circus Liquors Redevelopment Area. During the course of this testimony the developer explained that a portion of the property that was set aside as open space would continue to be owned by Mountain Hill, the company that was formed to work with the developers and the township. This point was debated and speculated upon for approximately 45 minutes, after which the Planning Board decided that they should move on with the hearing.

After the meeting in August, members of the public expressed concern that townhouse units bordering properties along Carriage Drive would have rooftop patio decks and would be capable of overlooking their properties and into their homes. The developer redesigned the rooftop patios so that they would be located in the front half of the roof, which would prevent the townhouse owners from seeing the neighboring properties and the residents along Carriage Drive from seeing the people that would be on the rooftop patios.

When all was said and done, the Planning Board voted 5-3 to approve the townhouse project but denied the developer the ability to sell units with rooftop patios.
