MIDDLETOWN, NJ — Middletown joined a large list of Monmouth County school districts that decided to make Monday, January 3 a snow day, due to the first winter storm of the season bearing down on Central and South Jersey.

The Middletown school district did say that the decision to close was in part because it is already struggling with teacher and school bus staffing shortages, due to so many teachers and others currently having to quarantine due to COVID. Also, teachers who live in Ocean County and areas south stayed home due to the snow.

"All district schools will be closed due to the forecast for inclement weather, which has further impacted transportation and staffing shortages," said the Middletown district. "At this time, we anticipate schools to open as scheduled on Tuesday, January 4."
