MIDDLETOWN, NJ — The investigation continues into what exactly killed a woman whose body was found inside a home in the North Middletown section Monday evening, said a spokesman for the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office.

The body of a deceased adult woman, age unknown, was found inside a home on the 200 block of Ocean Avenue in North Middletown on Monday evening, Oct. 7. Her death is currently being viewed as suspicious, according to the county prosecutor.

"(The) autopsy was completed. The cause and manner of death is pending toxicology results. The death remains under investigation, but there is no reason for local residents to be alarmed," Chris Swendeman, a spokesperson for county prosecutor Chris Gramiccioni, said late Tuesday afternoon.

Her body was found Monday evening inside a small blue house on Ocean Avenue, between Linden Ave. and Pine Street. The initial police call was for a suicide, the Asbury Park Press reported, but very rapidly the situation changed. Detectives with the county prosecutor's office were called to the scene, and the blue home was cordoned off with yellow police tape.

The home where she was found is directly across the street from the Ocean Avenue Elementary school. However, the school appeared unaffected and opened as normal on Tuesday morning.
