You could spend Black Friday inside some crowded store or mall. Or you could spend it at Gateway National Recreation Area. Get outside!

HIGHLANDS, NJ — You could spend Black Friday inside some crowded store or mall, shopping. Or you could spend it at Gateway National Recreation Area, which spans Sandy Hook, Jamaica in Queens and Staten Island.
Help clean up the shores of Jamaica Bay, climb the lighthouse at Sandy Hook, or learn about New York's harbor defense system in the nineteenth century and beyond.

Lighthouse Tours at Sandy Hook (Sandy Hook, NJ)
Friday, Nov. 29 1 p.m - 3:30 p.m
Lighthouse tours are available from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m daily. You can sign up for tours in the Keeper's Quarters. The Sandy Hook lighthouse is the oldest continuously operating lighthouse in the United States.
Fort Wadsworth Visitor Center (Staten Island)
Friday, Nov. 29 12 p.m - 4 p.m.
The Fort Wadworth Visitor Center is open from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Learn about New York's harbor defense system in the nineteenth century and beyond.
The Gateway National Recreation Area is made up of 27,000 acres spanning Sandy Hook in N.J. and Jamaica Bay and Staten Island in N.Y.
