About Flower Power Florist & Gifts
Flower Power Florist & Gifts is owned by Belford native, Sherree Patterson, and officially opened for business on September 1, 1977. At the young age of 20, Sherree noted that she made the best decision of her life by deciding to forego a career in dental hygiene and to instead open the floral shop. She developed a love for flowers after living in Hawaii for three years with her family, explaining that her father was an active duty army major and raised orchids. Her parents also owned and operated a florist in Ocean Township for several years, and Sherree learned the business by working there. This enterprise is truly multi-generational. From Sherree’s mother, father, and grandmother working at the shop in the past, to her daughters Emilee and Aimee helping out on the holidays and her oldest daughter Kelee who is currently working with her a floral designer and helping her run Flower Power. Sherree’s cousins, nieces, and aunt have all worked at Flower Power too, making this business a family affair.

Sherree recalls with a chuckle that her rent was $200 in 1977, and that first storefront is right across the street from her present location. Sherree attributes her success and longevity to the fact that she only sells the best quality flowers, has great, long-lasting relationships with her loyal customers, is open 365 days a year and donates wholeheartedly to all Middletown schools and organizations. “The best part of the business, for me, is the people, including all the employees past and present, who I have remained in touch with,” Sherree stated. When needed, her daughters, cousins, and nieces are there in the store to help during holidays and busy times, making this a true family business.
