Teaching Music To Babies, Toddlers and Preschoolers

When I am asked, "Does a baby really get anything out of coming to a Music Together class?" I invariably think back to the first time I went to a Music Together teacher training, many years ago in Princeton, NJ.  In the training, we observed a sample class of Music Together families being taught and led by one of the co-authors of the program, Dr. Lili Levinowitz.  Dr. Levinowitz had told the trainees that because we are all born 'sounders and movers' research had shown that babies tone and exhibit musical rhythmic behaviors in response to music, and in fact, when their important grown ups provide a consistent singing and dancing model these musical responses would be supported and continue to develop.  We were told that babies often sing, coo or tone in a pitch related to the music that was being played or sung (usually a fifth or an octave above the resting tone) and to my utter delight I found that this was absolutely true.  In fact, not only have I been able to observe this in the numerous trainings I have attended, but I have also heard and witnessed this in the many classes I have taught in the past two years in the Matawan and Middletown areas.  I have heard from so many families in my classes about how much more musical their children are after taking my classes, and continue to hear from families about how much joy this program has brought to their lives.  I encourage you to come sample a class with no obligation by registering at www.MatawanMusicTogether.com.  By attending a free sample class with your child you can pick up a coupon for $20 off Spring 2014 tuition, and a free welcome CD.
