Tree Crashes NJ Halloween Party, Injuring 4

Three people had to be taken to area hospitals after high winds brought a tree down onto a tent at a Middletown backyard party Friday night.

MIDDLETOWN, NJ — High winds Friday night brought a tree down onto a tent at a backyard Halloween party in Middletown, according to Middletown Police.

Four people total were injured, three seriously enough to be taken to local hospitals. But none of the injuries were life threatening, said police. All of the injured were adults.

This happened at 8:24 p.m. Friday at a private home on the 600 block of Cooper Road in Middletown, said police.

Police responded to a 911 call of a tree that fell down. When officers got there, they found a single tree had fallen onto a large party tent that had been set up in the home's backyard for a Halloween party. There were approximately 50 to 60 people in attendance.

Four of the people, all adults, at the party sustained injuries. One of the injured was transported to Hackensack Meridian Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune for treatment. Two other victims were transported to Hackensack Meridian Health Riverview Medical Center in Red Bank and the fourth person refused medical attention. None of the injuries were life threatening.

The incident appears to have been caused by high winds that were occurring at the time, said Middletown Police.
