Used Syringe Found in Hoodie Sweatshirt Bought at Middletown Target

"It is very sad and scary that this is now something that people have to look out for," Union Beach police posted on Facebook.

Middletown, NJ - A used hypodermic syringe was found in a hooded sweatshirt purchased at the Middletown Target over the weekend, Union Beach police announced Monday.

A male customer purchased the sweatshirt Friday, but didn't try it on until Sunday, and that's how he discovered the used hypodermic needle, Middletown Deputy Police Chief Steve Dollinger confirmed to Patch.

"I'm sure we all hope (this) is an isolated incident and/or a freak accident and not some sick prank," Union Beach police wrote on Facebook. "There's no way anyone in the store would have known about this, but we are encouraging everyone to be cautious with their purchases. It is very sad and scary that this is now something that people have to look out for."
