Update: Driver Located In Hit-And-Run, Middletown Police Say

Police say as of Wednesday evening, no charges had been filed against the 49-year-old driver who hit a 15-year-old girl.

Police have located the driver who hit a teen as she crossed Route 36 Tuesday night, authorities said.

As of Wednesday evening, no charges had been filed against the 49-year-old driver from the Leonardo section of Middletown, police said.

Deputy Chief Stephen Dollinger said police want to conduct a complete investigation before determining whether to charge the driver.

Around 8:25 p.m. Tuesday, Middletown police responded to a report of a hit-and-run accident at the intersection of Route 36 and Avenue D, according to a news release from Dollinger.

A 15-year-old Atlantic Highlands girl was hit by a westbound car on Route 36, police said.

The driver of that light grey compact car fled before police arrived, according to the news release.

The girl was airlifted to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune by a New Jersey State Police helicopter.

Cpl. Thomas Russo of the Middletown Township Police Traffic Bureau is handling the investigation.

Police ask anyone who may have witnessed the crash to call them at 732-615-2140.
