'Major' Middletown Water Main Break In River Plaza
The water main broke at 1:30 a.m. and got progressively worse, said Middletown Police. Up to 50 River Plaza homes have no water right now.
MIDDLETOWN, NJ — There was a water main break along West Front Street in Middletown's River Plaza neighborhood at 1:30 a.m. Thursday, reported police.
Police are calling this a "major" main break. Police officers responded to the call at 1:35 a.m. The water leak progressed in severity and caused significant undermining of West Front Street. There are photos on social media of cars falling into massive holes on West Front Street.
That section of West Front Street will be closed all day Thursday and will not reopen until 4 a.m. Friday. Approximately 50 homes in River Plaza are now currently without water and repairs are underway.

Avoid W. Front St. in the area of Whitman Drive, Hubbard Ave. and Half Mile Rd.
Water service to the affected area should be returned by Thursday afternoon and the road should be re-open by approximately 4 a.m. Friday, said Middletown Police.

Drivers are asked to stay out of the area and plan an alternate route using Newman
