Wegmans Is Coming To Middletown
The yet-to-be-built Shoppes at Middletown just got a major anchor tenant: Wegmans.

MIDDLETOWN, NJ — The yet-to-be-built — and yet to be approved — Shoppes at Middletown just got a major anchor tenant: Wegmans. A spokesman for the National Realty Development Corp., which is developing The Shoppes at Middletown, announced to Patch Wednesday that a Wegmans will open in the complex.
The Shoppes at Middletown, alternately called the Town Center and Village 35, would be located at Rt. 35 and Kings Highway. It will be next to Circus Wines, the liquor store that is there currently. That's a rendering of where it will be located, provided by the developer. The Shoppes at Middletown is right now scheduled to open in 2019. A dine-in movie theater called CMX the VIP Cinema Experience is also planned for the site. However, there are still 10 storefronts waiting to be leased at the complex. Wegmans and the movie theater are the only two confirmed tenants so far.
Should it open, the new grocery store will give major competition to Saker Shop-Rite in Middletown. The Shoppes at Middletown still needs approval from the Middletown Planning Board. Some residents in the area are opposed to it, saying the roads cannot handle more traffic and that it will destroy one of the few remaining green spaces left in that area. A group called Stop Village 35 is the most vocally against it.
