Got Chickens? A mini-seminar for starting your own backyard flock. The keeping of backyard poultry is an activity that has skyrocketed in recent years. Unfortunately, many new poultry owners are lacking important information and are unaware of it until a problem arises. Because they are essentially livestock, chickens are very easy to purchase, but not as easy to keep. Their care does not follow the familiar guidelines of dogs, cats, or even small animals that most people are comfortable with today. This mini-seminar seeks to address these - and many other - issues that new flock owners may face, and provides reliable sources for future questions. Topics include care and feeding; illnesses; proper coop size and placement; predator control; choosing the right breeds for your needs; hatching chicks; introduction of new birds; proper handling; attending poultry shows; biosecurity; and much more. Live birds will be on hand for demonstration. Presented by Mary Hussey. Sunday, January 29th @ 2:00 pm.
