American Red Cross Club will be conducting Operation Holiday Cheer to collect items for our community’s deployed troops. Items being collected are: boot socks (black, tan, or green), gum, beef jerky, Slim Jims, drink powder, protein bars, baby wipes, chap stick, sunscreen, travel sized board games, playing cards, icy hot, sunflower seeds, hot chocolate mix packages, hard candy, foot warmers, female hygiene products, Pringles, candy canes, DVDs, packets of coffee, and eye drops. Please join us in the Community Room to write cards to the military members from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm. Sunday, November 16th all day.

Paper Moon Puppet Theatre presents Cinderella, based on the tale written by Charles Perrault, featuring a befuddled duke, his nemesis: a perky dog named Frou-Frou, Cinderella, her stepsisters and a beloved fairy godmother! Beautiful scenery, period costumes and the charming music from Jules Massenet’s Cendrillon. There is an interactive pre-show with the audience and puppets. After the performance the audience is invited to see behind the scenes and to ask questions about the performance. No registration required; first come/first seated for a maximum of 100 participants. Sunday, November 16th @ 2:30 pm.

Math Tutoring. Come to the Children’s Room to get extra help with math homework from Middletown High School North High Honors students. No registration required; first come-first served. Sunday, November 16th @ 3:00 pm.

MathStarts: Aesop’s Opposites. Did you know that Aesop’s Fables were some of George Washington’s favorite stories when he was a little boy? In fact, most colonial children enjoyed these stories. In honor of time travel month, we will be using some of Aesop’s characters (such as the fast hare and the slow tortoise) along with games and hands-on activities to sharpen our understanding of opposites! For age 2-6. Monday, November 17th @ 10:00 am.

Pokemon Trading Night. Bring your cards to trade with fellow Pokemon fans. Discuss Pokemon books and movies. Play the game. For grades K-6. Monday, September 17th @ 7:00 pm.

Kids’ Playgroup. Caregivers can chat and explore hands-on activities with their children while learning about the importance of play in the quiet reading area. For all ages. Tuesday, November 18th @ 10:30 am.

Simply Storytime. As the name suggests, we will gather in the Children’s Program Room for some storytime fun! This family program will be offered throughout November at various times to accommodate all families. Check the CALENDAR on our website for dates. For all ages. Tuesday, November 18th @ 10:00 am.

Read to a Dog is a great way to improve the literacy skills of children by providing a non-judgmental listener in our furry friends. Children will read to a dog for five minutes. This program is for independent readers only. For grades K-5. Wednesday, November 19th @ 4:00 pm.

Drop-In LEGO Building Session. We will have our LEGOs out for free-play in our quiet reading area. Parents bringing younger siblings need to be vigilant with their little ones to prevent choking. No registration required. For ages 5+. Wednesday, November 19th @ 6:30 pm.

Meet the Masters: Chasing Degas - People on the Move. The program is designed to introduce a famous master artist or composer each month. We will introduce the artist, his work and discuss some of the techniques he used. We will also have a hands-on portion where we experiment with the art and music we discuss. NOTE: earlier time due to an early dismissal day for Middletown Public Elementary Schools. Dress For Mess as our creativity will be let loose. For grades K+. Thursday, November 20th @ 3:00 pm –.

SCRABBLE with Kids. Play each week in the Children’s Quiet Reading Area. Teens will teach you to play if you have never played before. For ages 6+. No registration necessary; this is a drop-in program. Thursday, November 20th @ 3:30 pm.

Mother Goose is an early language, literacy, and social experience for infants and toddlers with their parents/caregivers. Children will sit on their grown-ups’ laps to share songs and rhymes, and participate in a brief book sharing experience. Afterwards, we will have a social time with toys and books. This first group experience provides infants and toddlers with an opportunity to learn to enjoy being with other children and to participate in parallel play. For ages up to 23 months. Friday, November 21st @ 10:00 am.

Chess For Kids. Learn to play chess from other kids and teens. Planning, confidence, patience and discipline are all benefits of playing chess. We just think it’s fun! No registration required. For ages 6+. Friday, November 21st @ 3:30 pm.

Tutoring for Kids. Come to our drop-in tutoring program to keep up or help with your school work. Team up with a Biotech High School student to help you with any subject you like (or don’t like!) No registration required; first come-first served. For grades K-8. Saturday, November 22nd @ 9:00 am.

Reading Buddies. Teen volunteers will be available in the Children’s Quiet Reading Area to read with a child. This is a great program for beginning readers and pre-readers to become comfortable with reading. Teens. No registration required. For ages 4+. Saturday, November 22nd @ 10:00 am.
