18 Millburn HS Seniors Named National Merit Semifinalists
18 seniors from Millburn High School were recently selected as semifinalists in the 2019 National Merit Scholarship Competition.

MILLBURN, NJ — A group of 18 seniors from Millburn High School were recently selected as semifinalists in the 2019 National Merit Scholarship Competition.
According to the Millburn Public School District, the students included:William Cerulli, Alexander Chen, Andrew Chen, Rachel Cifu, Julian Fox, Katharine Fox, Tejas Gupta, Arnold Jia, Max Koenig, Helen Liu, Rahul Prakash, John Sanchez, Armaan Singh, Sanjana Sinkar, Ariel Stein, Warren Xia, Katherine Zhong and Brian Zhu.
School administrators said that the MHS students are among 16,000 semifinalists nationwide, the highest-scoring entrants in each state on the 2017 PSAT/NMSQT.

Officials wrote:
“These academically talented high school seniors have an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 7,500 National Merit Scholarships worth more than $32 million that will be offered next spring. To be considered for a Merit Scholarship award, semifinalists must fulfill several requirements to advance to the finalist level of the competition. About 90 percent of the semifinalists are expected to attain finalist standing, and about half of the finalists will win a National Merit Scholarship, earning the Merit Scholar title.”
Millburn High School also has 32 students who have been named as Commended Scholars. 34,000 students, more than two-thirds of the 50,000 high scorers receive Letters of Commendation in recognition of their outstanding academic promise.
