2 Millburn Students Didn't Live In District; Parents Ordered To Pay $20K: BOE

The parents of the two Millburn students were ordered to withdraw their children from the school district and reimburse the BOE.

MILLBURN, NJ — The Millburn Board of Education held a recent “residency hearing” during which its members agreed to accept a $19,924 payment from the parents of two students who don’t have the right to a free public education in the school district, according to board minutes.

During the special meeting on March 27 at the township Education Center - which was not attended by reporters or members of the public – Millburn BOE members ruled that the two students, identified only by a number, “are not domiciled in the Millburn Township School District for the purpose of being entitled to a free public education in accordance with NJSA 18A:38-1 and other statues covering such issues.”

The parents of the two students were ordered to withdraw their children from the school district and reimburse the BOE to the tune of $19,924, NorthJersey.com reported.
