A (More Than) Fair Day

Millburn Street Fair draws a colorful crowd on a gray day.

Texas BBQ, hand-painted wine glasses, jewelry, solar panels, kettlecorn, candles, zeppoles, face painting, live music, carnival -style games, toys, crafts,  balloons, clowns, italian style sausage, art, jewelry, T-shirts, photography, pickles, contractors, jewelry, crepes, sand painting, martial arts demonstrations and more jewelry.

That's only a partial list of what you missed if you skipped the Millburn Street Fair and Craft Show on Sunday.  Coordinated by the Millburn-Short Hills Chamber of Commerce, the fair drew a crowd that filled the street for most of the day. Among the 150 vendors, many artists were on hand to discuss their craft. Danielle and Chris Merzatta of Merzatta Designs came in from Mendham to display some of the more unique jewelry, of which most pieces had an ocean theme.

Some of the more enterprising entrepreneurs sold "Marshmallow Shooters" ($15.99 worth of spray painted PVC piping) and  a $10 rubber wristband that gave you more  power, flexibility and balance just by wearing it (really).

Kids kept busy with the inflatable bounce house, the petting zoo,  carnival games and face painting, as well as sampling the various treats.

David Ayllen, the designer at "People Like Me" had a good time watching kids explain his "I (spoon) First Dates" T-shirt to their parents.  A first timer at the fair, he said he thought that "the people in Millburn were great" and he "would definitely do it again."

The Dessert Ladies, also new vendors, were "very excited about their reception." They plan on coming back next year with a lot more samples.

Despite the overcast skies , a good time was had by vendors and customers alike. We asked one of the face painted kids to put down his funnel cake for a minute and tell us how he liked the fair. "It was great!" he yelled. We thought he'd say that.
