Accused Shoplifters Lead Millburn Cops On Foot Chase

The chase crossed over a local golf course and ended on Route 124, Millburn police said.

Millburn, NJ – Millburn police apprehended a pair of suspected shoplifters last week after a foot chase that crossed a local golf course and ended on Route 124.

According to the Millburn Police Department, staff at Louis Vuitton at The Mall at Short Hills reported that on Jan. 19, Ijena Smith, 20, of Brookly, allegedly concealed a $700 belt in her bag and left the store without making payment.

Smith was accompanied by Antonio King, 24, also of Brooklyn, who allegedly stole a $995 jacket valued at $995 from Bloomingdale’s, police said.

Pursued by Millburn police officers, the pair allegedly ran out of the mall onto the Canoe Brook Golf course property, then onto Route 124 where they were apprehended.

Authorities charged Smith and King with shoplifting and resisting arrest. In addition, King had an active criminal warrant out of New York.

King was transported to the Essex County Correctional Facility; Smith was released with a court date.
