The Millburn varsity boys’ tennis team did double duty on Wednesday, shutting out both Seton Hall Prep and Montclair Kimberley Academy 5-0 on the Miller home courts.
The Seton Hall match was continued from an April 6 rainout, with all Millburn players in the lead. On Wednesday morning, the Millers finished the job, winning all positions in straight sets. On the top singles court, Eric Cohen beat Greg Olesnycky 6-4, 6-0. Second singles Rob Xie defeated Cesar Munoz 6-2, 6-0. Tristan Lane, at third singles, bested Antonio Guarco 6-0, 6-0. First doubles Mac Johnson and Jared Wishnow brushed off Tom Kim and James Cirignano 6-0, 6-0, and second doubles Nicky Chen-Schmidt and Alex Shipp beat Ken Lamar and Mike DeFillipo 6-0, 6-1.
In the afternoon, Montclair Kimberley’s team came calling. They lost the first point to Millburn second doubles Chen-Schmidt and Teddy Moskovitz, 6-0, 6-1. First singles Cohen followed quickly with the second point, besting Conor Breen 6-1, 6-0. The decisive third point belonged to Xie, at second singles, over Brandon Kwan, 6-0, 6-0. First doubles duo Johnson and Wishnow dispatched Jeff Smith and Dan Robinson, 6-0, 6-1. The fifth and final point, at third singles, belonged to Jon Duan, who beat Jason Kwan, 5-7, 6-2, 6-4.
With these two victories, the Millers overall record stands at 10-2, with their Super Essex Conference (American Division) record at 6-0.
The tennis team is scheduled to be on the road for three away matches starting April 25, against West Essex, Newark Academy, and Seton Hall Prep.
