“We were honored by the attendance and goodwill messages of Mayor Frank Saccomandi and Senator John F. McKeon, whose words of encouragement reinforced the importance of civic engagement, inclusion, and collaboration in building a stronger community. Their presence affirmed the value of bringing people together across backgrounds, cultures, and experiences.
“We are equally grateful to the many organizations and community leaders who joined us in support of this historic milestone, including the Millburn-Short Hills Chinese Association, the Cultural Diversity Committee, members of the Indian American community, Mt. Zion Church, the Nigerian American Public Affairs Committee (NAPAC-NJ), Heroes of Tomorrow's Africa, Bridges Outreach, and many others. The diverse representation in the room reflected the very best of our township and demonstrated what is possible when organizations work together toward a common purpose.

“The commissioning of BAMS marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter. As Black Americans of Millburn-Short Hills, we are committed to fostering meaningful connections, supporting educational and cultural initiatives, encouraging civic participation, and serving as a positive force within our community. Our mission is grounded in service, engagement, and the belief that communities flourish when all residents are empowered to contribute and thrive.
“As we move forward, BAMS will focus on measurable outcomes and meaningful impact through strategic partnerships, community programs, youth engagement, leadership development, and cultural awareness initiatives. We will continue to establish key performance indicators that ensure accountability while advancing our vision of creating opportunities for connection, growth, and service.
Most importantly, the commissioning ceremony was a powerful reminder that our differences are not barriers but strengths. We envision a future where neighbors learn from one another, support one another, and work together to address the needs of our community. Through collaboration, respect, and shared purpose, we can continue building a township where everyone feels welcome, valued, and empowered.
“BAMS looks forward to opening its doors to all those we serve and partnering with residents and organizations throughout Millburn-Short Hills to strengthen our community for generations to come. Together, we can live together, work together, and grow together in ways that benefit us all.
“Thank you to everyone who helped make this event a success. The future is bright, and BAMS is excited to continue its journey of service, leadership, and community building in the beautiful community we proudly call home.”
