Before and After: Bedroom Makeover
ROOM MAKEOVERS: Great for rooms, Better for the people living in them! See how one bedroom went from dorm-room sloppy to grownup chic.
We've all got a room or two in our homes that, during the winter 'interior' months, we wish were different - more inviting, more alive, more beautiful. Room makeovers don't have to break the bank. Sometimes just paint and some well edited dramatic touches are all it takes to turn 'eh' to 'ahhhh.'
This bedroom went from dorm-room sloppy to grownup chic with just a little bit of imagination and color.
BEFORE this bedroom was more dorm room than grownup bedroom of an established couple with a growing family.

The Assignment: Bring this large master bedroom suite to adulthood, making it a retreat for a busy couple with young children.
Concept: I wanted to create a space in which my clients would look forward to relaxing any time of day or night. A happy and interesting space - sophisticated, yet kid friendly as well. A large, bland room with adjacent sitting area, this bedroom required elements that would provide a bit of drama and warm cohesion to the space without breaking a tight budget.

Answer: Color and Paint would provide the most bang for the buck. The bed wall needed to become an interesting focal point and the overall space needed an infusion of warmth.
AFTER: With a color-loving client, the use of bold, warm color with sprinkles of Eastern flavor was a fun concept she embraced. The high ceiling had architectural interest, but needed to be accentuated. I chose the dark raspberry for the bed wall and ceiling color. Gray walls to balance and soften. Roman shades with a Turkish fabric motif, mother-of-pearl inlay nightstands and hanging light imported from Morocco and a fully upholstered bed in a bronze 'leather' provide glamour and interest. Purchases from trade showrooms, as well as online and stores like Home Goods helped keep costs down.
