Tennis Anyone??
With each day (and especially after an entire summer of not seeing them) they are getting taller, stronger, smarter and more athletic. Me on the other hand...
I played tennis with my youngest son today. He beat me. He beat me bad. It seemed like it was just yesterday when I was teaching this kid how to hold a tennis racquet. We've been playing for years, I've been watching him steadily improve but this summer he must've played a lot because he came home a week ago, challenged me and whooped my butt. At first I thought it was a fluke but after three sets it began to set in that this kid is now better than me.
Did he improve? Am I getting older and slower? Is it a little bit of both? Yes, to all of the above. I hate to admit it but I'm on the downside of the bell curve and my boys are on the upswing.
With each day (and especially after an entire summer of not seeing them) they are getting taller, stronger, smarter and more athletic. Me on the other hand... But it's ok. It's all good. That's the way it was meant to be. And watching him beat me on the court and then watching his brother on the soccer field and their older brother being courted by good colleges and beautiful girls hanging around our house and lots of friends and all that good stuff I know that they're well on their way to a good life. Good for them. And I sit back and I enjoy it just as much watching from afar as their proud father.
