UPDATE: Millburn Gas Main Break Causes Evacuation

A gas main break on Spring Street and Millburn Avenue caused an evacuation of the area on Wednesday, officials say.

MILLBURN, NJ — A gas main break on Spring Street and Millburn Avenue caused an evacuation of the immediate area on Wednesday morning, Millburn town officials stated.

Millburn officials issued a statement around 11 a.m. on Twitter alerting residents about the issue.

“Due to emergency activity, Millburn Avenue is closed from Blaine Street to Spring Street and from Taylor Street to Essex Street,” officials stated. “Please plan an alternate route.”

Millburn officials provided an update about 30 minutes later:

“Gas main break on Spring Street and Millburn Avenue. Immediate area was evacuated. Please follow detours in place by police and fire. PSE&G on scene.”

Millburn officials said that the evacuation was lifted and Millburn Avenue was reopened around 1 p.m.

Repairs are being made on the gas main, officials stated.

"There was a gas main break this morning, Wednesday, on Spring Street and Millburn Ave.," officials wrote. "The immediate area was evacuated. The police and fire departments and PSE&G are on the scene.
Town Hall will be closed for the remainder of the day but will be open during regular business hours tomorrow. Sorry for any inconvenience."
