Millburn Burglary Suspect In Ski Mask Is Unmasked As Teen Boy: Police

Police released reports of car burglaries and thefts in Millburn, including a case in which 2 people were seen entering a car in ski masks.

MILLBURN, NJ — The Millburn police recently released details of car burglaries and car thefts in August, including an incident in which two people in ski masks were seen entering a car. In at least three incidents, the key fob may have been left in the vehicle, the owners said.

Here are the reports:

On Friday, Aug. 12, Millburn Police Officer Czupak responded to a Farley Road residence after getting a call about a motor vehicle theft. A man said that some time overnight, his BMW X3 had been stolen from his driveway. The key fob was possibly left in the vehicle, he said. The incident remains under investigation.

Later that night, at 11:52 p.m., the Millburn Police responded to the area of 500 Millburn Ave. after a report of two males with ski masks entering a parked Ford Mustang, police said. Officer Nakashian located one of the suspects near the vehicle, and that person had items from the car in his possession, police said.

The police said the suspect turned out to be a 16-year-old boy from Springfield.

The teen was charged with juvenile delinquency (burglary) and later released to his parent, police said. The second person remains at large and the incident remains under investigation by the Millburn Police Detective Bureau, police said.

A week later, on Friday, Aug. 19, at 3:05 a.m., Millburn Police Officer Frisch responded to a Sheridan Drive residence on a report of theft of a vehicle. The resident reported that he saw his BMW X1 pulling out of his driveway. The key fob had been left in the vehicle.

While canvassing the area, Millburn police discovered that there had been burglaries to vehicles at two residences on Browning Road and one on Keats Road, they said. This incidents remain under investigation.

Later that morning, at 7:15 a.m., Millburn Police Officer Kelly responded to a Fairfield Drive residence on a report of attempted burglary to a vehicle, police said. The resident reported that at 1:45 am, he observed two unknown black males on security footage, attempting to enter two vehicles in his driveway. This incident remains under investigation by the Millburn Police Detective Bureau, police said.

The next day, Aug. 20, at 05:15 a.m., Millburn Police Officer Recinos responded to a Lake Road residence on a report of theft of a vehicle. The resident reported that some time overnight, his 2020 Jeep Compass was stolen from his driveway. He further reported that the key fob may have been left in the vehicle.

The vehicle was later located in Newark, NJ. This incident remains under investigation by the Millburn Police Detective Bureau.

On Aug. 21, at 12:39 p.m., Millburn Police Officers Palmer and Dundon stopped a 2013 Ford
Explorer at the Mall at Short Hills for motor vehicle violations. The investigation revealed that the driver had multiple warrants from other jurisdictions, police said. Brent Lucas, 40, of Staten Island, was arrested, issued motor vehicle summonses, and released to Florham Park Police on their warrant.

On Aug. 22 at 8:21 p.m., Officers Carroll and Herrera responded to a Hardwell Road residence on
a report of a residential burglary alarm. Upon arrival, the officers saw evidence of forced entry to the residence. However, nothing was reported stolen at the time of the report.
