Cold Stone Now for Rent

A "for rent" sign has appeared in the window of the Cold Stone store at the corner of Main and Essex streets in the last two days.

The Cold Stone has been closed for several months. The sign says the store is for rent by the owner and to call 973-376-0615.

Jim Daniels, who answered the call made to the phone number, said they are looking to rent the space to another ice cream store, including another Cold Stone franchise. They are in negotiations for another Cold Stone, he said, but they would be open to another type of ice cream franchise if it does not work out.

Cold Stone sued the former franchise owner for that location, Stephen Reiter, a Livingston resident, for continuing to operate after they ended a franchise agreement with each other.
