Winter programs for all ages are heating up at the Cora Hartshorn Arboretum!

On-Going Classes and Clubs:
ARBORETUM SPROUTS Arboretum Sprouts is a weekly class where children and a parent/caregiver explore the natural world through songs, games, crafts, and a hike (weather permitting). Children must be 18 months by January 1st and accompanied by a caregiver. Pre-registration and membership required. Mondays, January 8 to March 19, 10-11 AM No Class February 19 (10 Weeks, $150) Tuesdays, January 9 to March 20, 10-11 AM No Class February 20 (10 Weeks, $150) Thursdays, January 11 to March 22, 10-11 AM No Class February 22 (10 Weeks, $150)

TURTLE TOTS Turtle Tots is a weekly class where your preschooler will discover nature through guided discussions, nature walks, and hands-on learning. Your child will be introduced to topics such as: evergreen trees, animal tracks, and early signs of spring. For all classes, please bring a healthy snack. Children must be 3 years old by January 1st and be able to use the bathroom alone. Pre-registration, Membership and Health Forms required. Tuesdays, January 9 to March 20, 3:00– 4:00 PM No Class February 20 (10 Weeks, $150) Fridays, January 12 to March 23, 2:30 – 4:00 PM No Class February 23 (10 Weeks, $200)
ECO-EXPLORERS K-3rd Graders meet afterschool for an hour of hands on nature discovery through guided walks, scientific investigation, and woodland exploration. Most of the class will take place outside. Please be sure your child dresses for the weather. Pre-registration and membership required. 2nd and 4th Wednesdays the Month, 3:30 pm– 4:30 pm January 10th – March 14th (5 classes) $75

Family Programs and Events:
On Sunday, January 21, 2018, join Cora's Conservation Corps teen volunteers for the JANUARY GUIDED HIKE. Learn all about ANIMALS IN WINTER and why winter is the best time to look for signs of wildlife. You will also learn how to become a Citizen Scientist and help record important data this season. Please dress for the weather and be prepared for the outdoors and changing trail conditions. Hikes depart at 11am, 1 pm and 3 pm and will last about 45 minutes each.
On Saturday, February 3, 2018, from 6:00 – 7:30 pm join the naturalists at the Cora Hartshorn Arboretum for the BLACK MOON HIKE. For the first time in almost 20 years, the month of February will not have a full moon - find out why this happens as we hike through the evening woodlands. After our hike, warm up with a cup of hot cocoa in the Stone House and learn about the mammals that call New Jersey home.
On Saturday, February 10, 12:00– 1:30 PM or 2:00-3:30 PM, join the staff of the Cora Hartshorn Arboretum and the Chinese Association of Millburn-Short Hills for the Third Annual LUNAR NEW YEAR AND WELCOME SPRING CELEBRATION. We'll shake off the winter blues and celebrate the Lunar New Year by following our special lion through the woods. Be prepared to make some noise as we welcome spring with games, trivia, crafts, and stories. Price: $8/Person.

WINTER BREAK CAMP takes place this year from February 19 – 23, 2018. Stay warm during Winter Break as we explore the Arboretum with our snow boots and gloves on! Children will enjoy some fun in the snow while learning about some of the curiosities of the winter season. Please bring a snack and lunch, and dress for the outdoors. Pre-registration, health forms, and membership are required. Register for one day or for the whole week! Explorers: 1st through 3rd grades. 9:00 am - 3:00 pm Turtle Tots (3-5 year olds) 9:00 am - 12:30 pm.
On Sunday, March 4, 2018, join the naturalists at the Cora Hartshorn Arboretum and the Millburn-Short Hills Indian American Association for our second annual HOLI FESTIVAL. Festivities will take place during two sessions: 12:00 – 2:30 pm and 3:00 – 5:00 pm. We will welcome spring with a celebration of colors, music, and fresh air! Get ready for spring with traditional dances and performances, hikes, and more! Admission: $8.00/person. Refreshments will be available for purchase.
On Wednesday, March 7, 2018, 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm, the Cora Hartshorn Arboretum welcomes award winning author and Short Hills resident, DARA HORN, for a fireside chat on her new novel, Eternal Life, http://darahorn.com/novels-2/eternal-life/. Light refreshments will be provided. Please visit our website for more information and to purchase tickets. Space is limited.
Saturday, March 17, 2018, 10:00 am – 12:30 pm, grab a chance to see what summer camp will be like at our SUMMER NATURE CAMP OPEN HOUSE. Join us for a tour of the grounds, and meet and greet the Cora Hartshorn Arboretum's educators. RSVP Required.

Learn all about FROGWATCH USA, and learn how to become a Citizen Scientist and record important data this season! Please dress for the weather and be prepared for the outdoors and changing trail conditions. Hikes depart at 11am, 1 pm and 3 pm and will last about 45 minutes each.
On Saturday, March 24, 2018, 7:00 – 8:30 pm, Join the Cora Hartshorn Arboretum staff for a sunset hike as we learn about VERNAL POOLS and the amazing adaptations of the creatures that dwell in the temporary habitat of vernal pools. Listen for frog calls and learn how you can participate in a nationwide citizen science project. Light refreshments will be served.
On Friday, March 30, 2018, visit the Arboretum with your family and learn all about FLYING FEATHERED FRIENDS. Discover the important role birds have in our world's ecological health and how to create your own backyard bird sanctuary. Stories, games, guided hikes, and more! Two sessions: 10:30 am – 11:45 am or 1:00 pm – 2:15 pm.
