In a unique twist on the Broadway-to-film pipeline, the musical takes its source material from the eponymous 1993 mobster cult film.
“A Bronx Tale has always had a very special meaning to me,” commented co-director Robert De Niro “The story is so rich and I look forward to working with Jerry, Chazz, Alan and Glenn to bring it to the stage in its latest incarnation.”

Here’s how the theater’s website describes the musical:
“With music by Tony and Oscar winner Alan Menken, lyrics by Glenn Slater and written by Chazz Palminteri, based on his acclaimed one-man show, it is a complex love story set against the backdrop of racial strife and organized crime in the 1960s. A Bronx Tale will be directed by two-time Oscar winner Robert De Niro and four-time Tony Award winner Jerry Zaks, with choreography by Sergio Trujillo.”
Although DeNiro doesn’t appear in the musical himself, the cast includes Jason Gotay as Calogero, Joshua Colley as Young Calogero, Nick Cordero as Sonny, Richard H. Blake as Lorenzo, Coco Jones as Jane and Lucia Giannetta as Rosina.
If you’re eager to catch one of the performances, there’s no time like the present to get your ticket. Last week, the theater posted a message via social media that multiple performances have already sold out.
