UPDATE: Driver In Fatal U-Haul Incident Took A Turn Near (But Not In) Millburn
A NYPD official said a man who drove a U-Haul in a fatal Brooklyn crash had come through Millburn, but local police say it's not true.

MILLBURN, NJ — Millburn police clarified a statement from a New York police detective this week that said a U -Haul driver who struck nine people in Brooklyn on Monday — killing a single dad — had driven through Millburn the day before.
“The next time we see that vehicle is in New Jersey, Millburn, on Sunday, Feb. 12, at 8:10 p.m. before he returns to Brooklyn” said NYPD Chief of Detectives James Essig, according to the New York Post.
"On Feb. 6, he showed up at the Brooklyn residence of his son, from whom he is estranged, to shower. He returned to Brooklyn Monday after driving through Millburn, New Jersey, a day earlier," ABC News reported on Tuesday.

"The Millburn Police Department is aware of the story published on Patch.com regarding the U-Haul driver who was apprehended by NYPD after striking nine pedestrians in New York. The story claims the U-Haul drove through Millburn. To clarify, the vehicle never entered town and was tracked via a license plate reader on Route 78. The NYPD has not contacted MPD as part of the investigation into this incident.”
A spokeswoman for the town further clarified that the reader on Route 78 "indicates a location on the highway near town, however, there is no direct egress into town from that section of the highway."
The man suffered hallucinations before the hour-long spree Monday and told police they should have shot him, police told the public Tuesday. READ MORE: 'You Should Have Shot Me,' Accused U-Haul Rampage Driver Told NYPD
