Appraisal Event at the Millburn Public Library

The Arts Advisory committee proudly presents "Appraisal Day", co-hosted by Nye and Company, at the Millburn Library to benefit the Arts Advisory Committee scholarships.

Do you have an artwork in your hallway you suspect might be painted by a famous artist?  Ever wondered about the history of an antique in your basement?  Bring your items to an Antique Roadshow type event sponsored by the Arts Advisory Committee on Sunday, March 14 from 1:30 – 4:00 pm at the library.  Your $10 admission will allow you to have two pieces rated by the professional appraisers from Nye and Company, as well as to enjoy watching other items evaluated.  Artwork, antiques, household goods, etc,  are welcomed; prohibited are any types of weaponry or large furniture.

All proceeds from Appraisal Day will go toward the scholarships administered by the Millburn/Short Hills Arts Advisory Committee to Junior and Senior advanced placement Millburn High School art students.  Now in its 5th year, the scholarship program has had committee members review the students' portfolios and choose those to be honored with the scholarships.

In addition to overseeing the scholarships, The Arts Advisory Committeedevelops and maintains the Township's art collection.  Two of the highlights on display are by Edward Dufner, known as "the  painter of light" and a former resident of the township.  These large paintings ("Around the Fire" and "Mother and Children in a Meadow") can be seen in the main room of the library.  (Link to library's page with images:http://www.millburn.lib.nj.us/about/ArtInLibrary.htm
