ARC of Essex County to hold 13th Annual 5K Run/ 2 Mile Walk

On Saturday April 2, 2011, The ARC of Essex County is holding its 13th Annual “Building Tomorrows” 5KRun/2 Mile Walk at Brookdale Park in Bloomfield, New Jersey.  This event is to benefit the programs and services provided by the ARC of Essex County.  The ARC of Essex County is a non-profit agency serving 1300 individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in over 45 programs throughout Essex County.

The course is USATF certified and a popular training event for those who run longer marathons.  Runners who are registered with the USATF receive 500 Grand Prix points for their participation. The course itself is contained within scenic Brookdale Park.

This event attracts about 1000 individuals who run in the 5K, walk the companion 2 Mile walk, volunteer or are spectators. Highlights of the day include our National Anthem sung by one of the ARC program participants, snacks, DJ, yogurt and random prizes. Goody bags and tee shirts are given to participants while supplies last.  Prizes will also be awarded to the top three fundraisers for this event.

Registration is from 8:15am to 9:45am. 5K Run start is 10:00am. Registration before March 25th is $22; $20 for USATF members. Same day registration is $25. There are medals for the top three runners, male and female, in each age category from 14 and under to over 75.

This event attracts people of all ages. Participants have come from as far away as Spain. Families, children, strollers and pets on leashes are welcome.
