"Living Movement" Tai Chi Program

In this new Tai Chi inspired movement program called” Living Movement”, you will learn qigong, ancient healing exercises using the principles of tai chi as well as a short tai chi sequence designed to improve balance, reduce falls and slow down the loss of bone density.  “ Living Movement” is appropriate for active adults who can stand for most of the class.  No prior knowledge of tai chi or qigong is necessary.

In an era when many of us are primarily concerned with losing weight and gaining muscle mass why would you want to learn the slow moving art of tai chi?  Tai chi won’t fold under your bed for easy storage, nor does it claim to take inches off your waistline in just 3 minutes a day.   Research is showing, however, that those who practice tai chi are likely to get stronger, have less anxiety, move more organically and gracefully, improve their balance and enjoy more flexibility.

The Senior Citizen Coordinator’s Office continues to offer the Arthritis Foundation Tai Chi Program for people with Arthritis or those who want a gentle exercise program.   Participants can choose to stand or sit for the class.  Research has shown that this program is effective seated as well as standing.
