Now in its eighth year, the annual fundraiser Millburn Cares, founded by Millburn High School English teacher Ms. Snyder and the class of 2002, is an effort to raise money and awareness for AIDS/HIV.
In the past, money has been raised for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS. This year, Presidents Alexandra Fagan and Ashley Rappoport, vice president Martha Meguerian and student Alex Sugarman kicked off the year in October when the Millburn High School drama students held a packed event at Rockn Joes in Millburn. The music event raised over $400 for Broadway House for Continuing Care in Newark. Millburn High School's drama club began to work with Broadway House when 2007 graduate Emily Hughes initiated a relationship with them. Since then, Broadway House and the Millburn drama students have formed a special bond, performing at the facility at least once a year and making visits to donate money and or clothing.
The eighth annual event, Millburn Cares: Rock the Cause, will close the year. Some of the most talented vocalists and musicians will perform songs from Broadway's Rock Operas over the years. Members of the public are invited and encouraged to attend. Tickets are $5 and can be purchased at the door.
