Evan Sherman, drummer, bandleader, composer, arranger and New Jersey native, is a 2011 Millburn High School Graduate and 2015 graduate of the prestigious Manhattan School of Music. At just 25 years-old, Sherman has toured all over the world. He’s performed and recorded with icons Wynton & Branford Marsalis, Ron Carter, Roy Hargrove, Cyrus Chestnut, The Jimmy Heath Big Band and The Dizzy Gillespie All Star Big Band.Since 2014, under his direction, The Evan Sherman Big Band has been featured at Jazz at Lincoln Center, The Rainbow Room at Rockefeller Center, Ginny’s Supper Club (Harlem), The Django (TriBeca), The Blue Note, Lincoln Center’s Midsummer Night’s Swing, Caramoor Jazz Festival, SteelStacks (PA), and the Perth International Arts Festival (Australia).
On Thursday evening, July 11th, Sherman brings his 16-piece big band to the Bickford Theatre at Morristown's Morris Museum, for their first appearance in the Garden State.
The Evan Sherman Big Band’s vast repertoire promises something for everyone - from early jazz pioneers: Ellington, Basie, Lunceford, & Dizzy to Earth, Wind & Fire, Stevie Wonder with musical influences back to Monteverdi, Tchaikovsky, and Joplin! Audiences find it hard to stay seated during their performances.

The band’s all-star lineup dazzles crowds with a multi-generational mix of NYC’s jazz veterans and the most dynamic young musicians who hail from all over the world, some of whom also grew up in NJ.
Sherman is also a clinician and mentor, while on tour and at home in New York City, throughout the New York City public school system for the Jazz for Young People program at Jazz at Lincoln Center.

Sherman is honored to be the musical director for the third year in a row for "Jazz for Jennings". A charitable concert founded by the late ABC World News anchor Peter Jennings alongside jazz pioneer, Max Roach.
