MILLBURN, NJ — A fire on Millburn Avenue on Wednesday forced the temporary closure of two businesses and damaged an apartment above, the township of Millburn said.

The fire was reported at 8:02 am on Wednesday at 355 Millburn Ave.

Millburn Fire Department received reports of a fire inside La Strada restaurant. Upon arrival, fire officials reported a moderate smoke condition.

The fire spread behind the wall and up above a tin ceiling, where it began to extend to the second floor apartment, officials said.

"Fire crews were able to extinguish the main body of fire expeditiously, which was located within the area of the pizza oven," the town noted.

Surrounding fire departments from Summit, Springfield, South Essex, West Orange, Union, and Irvington responded.

The President’s Club Barber Shop also sustained smoke damage from the fire and was to remain closed through Thursday, the town said.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
