Last week, the Millburn-Short Hills July 4th Committee noted that there will be a parade on July 4 this year, even though the fireworks have been canceled.

You are the parade route, so be sure to decorate your homes and help make July 4th festive! As a bonus, shop at local participating businesses from June 26 to July 3 and ask for patriotic-themed giveaways (while supplies last) provided by the Millburn-Short Hills July 4th Committee to help light the July 4th night red, white and blue!

Here are some other local events and updates:
- The Cranford Jaycees Firecracker 4 Miler, Fun Run, and Open Run on July 4 will be held virtually this year.
- Macy's Fourth of July Fireworks are taking place on July 4 as usual, and will be shown on NBC starting at 8 p.m. Leading up to that date, there will be other 5-minute shows around New York City starting June 29.
- The State Fair Meadowlands, which normally has fireworks on July 4, is now running instead from July 23 through Aug. 9. When they update their schedule it will be here.
- Essex County Executive Joseph DiVincenzo announced on June 1 that the Essex County Summer Music Concert Series and Fireworks displays were cancelled. Essex County traditionally hosted three Fireworks Spectaculars in Branch Brook in Newark, Weequahic Park in Newark, and Brookdale Park in Bloomfield/Montclair.
- In his May 21 newsletter, Maplewood Mayor Frank McGehee said, "No July 4th fireworks in 2020: Because public safety is our number one priority, we are cancelling this year’s 4th of July celebration."
- Fireworks slated to take place at Union County parks from July 2-4 have been canceled, including Cranford, Plainfield, Rahway, and Springfield.
