Free Stroke Screenings Offered In Millburn: Sign Up For Tuesday

The Millburn Health Department has a few more slots open for free stroke screenings.

MILLBURN, NJ — The Millburn Health Department, in conjunction with Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center, will offer a free Stroke Risk Assessment Screening on Tuesday, May 23, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Bauer Community Center, 100 Main St.

Each year, more than 795,000 people in the United States has a stroke, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

A stroke occurs either when blood clots or particles block blood vessels to the brain or when a blood vessel in the brain bursts.

While there are some risk factors that cannot be controlled, such as age and race/ethnicity, others can be controlled. Lifestyle changes such as increased physical activity, healthier eating, and efforts to control high blood pressure can all help decrease your stroke risk.

The Stroke Risk Assessment Screening on May 23rd at the Bauer Community Center is free and will help you understand your risk of having a stroke and what you can do to lower it.

The screening will test blood pressure, cholesterol, and blood glucose and will include a brief nursing consultation.
